ACTS Founder/CEO, Daniel Becker, won the Republican nomination for the United States House of Representatives (Georgia's Ninth District) in 1992. He received national notoriety for his hard-hitting pro-life, pro-family campaign, appearing on CNN, Good Morning America, The Rush Limbaugh Show (TV) and Ted Koppel's, Nightline. Becker's aggressive advocacy of the rights of the unborn resulted in his becoming the first federal candidate in US political history to have his First Amendment rights chilled by a Federal Court order using "prior restraint". His landmark case became a pro-life victory, four years later.
Advanced Communication Technology & Services, Inc. (ACTS) was formed, following his failed bid for Congress, to consult and serve the Christian pro-family movement through recent advances in telecommunication. ACTS received national acclaim within the various organizations by utilizing state of the art technology to motivate and activate the movement's grass root supporters around issues of legislative concern.
Relationship with these national organizations shifted to other needs which ACTS was requested to address. The need for dependable, budgetable funding was a common request. To address these needs a Commercial Affinity/Referral Endorser program was established with Cable & Wireless, USA. (C&W USA) in October of 1995 to handle our large corporate supporters. Christian Coalition endorsed the program and several large groups followed soon after.
In the wake of national controversy over Becker’s candidacy, noted Christian financial author Larry Burkett, personally endorsed ACTS CEO Daniel Becker in his bid for the U.S. House of Representatives. The relationship grew over the next number of years to include a shared vision for the importance of influencing government and business to reflect a biblical worldview in all aspects of their dealings.
In September of 1995, Dr. Don Wildmon’s American Family Association approved the ACTS program for use by all of its state affiliates.
In July of 1996, Christian Financial Concepts, issued a commendation of the ACTS’s Cable & Wireless USA, Commercial Referral Program.
In June of 1999, ACTS initiated the ACTS/C&W USA Residential Affinity program. Eventually over 200 pro-family organizations participated as ACTS partners and included World Vision, Dr. D. James Kennedy’s Coral Ridge Ministries and Christian Financial Concepts.
In June of 1999, Christian Financial Concepts, re-released the following commendation of C&W in their monthly publication, Money Matters entitled “Making a difference”.
“Individuals who sign up for Cable Wireless USA’s residential long distance services will enjoy the benefits of dealing with a secular company that dares to take a moral stand in the marketplace.”
In July of 1999, Dr. D. James Kennedy’s Coral Ridge Ministries, commended Cable & Wireless to their donors for having canceled a lucrative contract with Playboy.
“Family friendly firms are rare in today’s marketplace. Even more scarce are Fortune 500 firms willing to forego profits for the sake of the family.”
The ACTS Affinity program with Cable & Wireless became a telecom marketing phenomenon. It was the fastest growing and most successful program of its kind in the company’s history.
In October 1999 American Family Association signed an agreement to promote Cable & Wireless services. Within a few days of executing the agreement, a new Cable & Wireless CEO was installed.
On November 5, 1999, in a telephone conversation with ACTS CEO, Daniel Becker, Mr. “Zie” Rivers, the new CEO of Cable & Wireless USA refused to reissue the public policy statement of the three former CEO/COO’s declaring in writing that Cable & Wireless Inc. supports “traditional family values”. In a letter to Mr. Larry Burkett, Mr. Rivers reiterated his stand,
“However, I cannot , and will not, agree to a policy which can be considered exclusionary like the one agreeing to support ‘traditional family values’ due to the connotations associated with that terminology.”
In December 1999 UN-endorsements were issued by the participating ministries.
Since 1995 ACTS has continued the fight to take “dominion” in the telecom industry. ACTS Inc. provides funding and telecommunication services to Christian businesses, ministries and other conservative groups and nonprofit organizations.
